HAL® 24xy
HAR® 24xy
Precise and Robust Programmable Linear Hall-Effect Sensor Family
Overview
The HAL 24xy family delivers extended distance measurement, improved robustness and state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic functions for demanding applications. The new members leverage TDK‑Micronas’ long experience in linear Hall‑effect sensors, full in‑house manufacturing and automotive‑proven zero ppm track record. They use the latest technology node, a new digital architecture and enhanced Hall plates. Output linearization is improved via a flexible compensation function with 16 programmable setpoints, and angles up to 180° can be measured even with a simple magnet configuration.
Operation & features
Major characteristics - magnetic field range, sensitivity, output quiescent voltage and output voltage range - are programmable in non‑volatile memory. All devices include a temperature‑compensated Hall plate with spinning‑current offset compensation, an A/D converter, digital signal processing, a D/A converter with output driver, an EEPROM with redundancy and a lock function for calibration data, a serial interface for EEPROM programming, and protection devices on all pins.
The sensor can be calibrated to precisely match its output to the input signal and to compensate for application variations (magnet positioning, temperature drift), enabling accurate operation across the full temperature range. Calculation of individual sensor characteristics and EEPROM programming can be performed with a PC and the TDK‑Micronas application kit.
Block diagram – system architecture
The HAL 24xy is a monolithic integrated circuit that provides an output voltage proportional to the magnetic flux through the Hall plate and proportional to the supply voltage (ratiometric behavior). This voltage is converted to a digital value, processed in the Digital Signal Processing Unit (DSP) according to the EEPROM register settings, converted back to an analog voltage with ratiometric behavior, and buffered by a push‑pull output transistor stage (HAL 242x). The HAL 2455 features a configurable PWM output with up to 12‑bit resolution and frequencies between 0.25 kHz and 2 kHz.
Qualification & packaging
The HAL 24xy family is designed for hostile industrial and automotive applications. It is AEC‑Q100 qualified and is available in very small leaded RoHS TO92UT and SOIC8 packages.
